There are cross beams overhead and a central, traditional fireplace (called “irori”) in the center of what used to be a farmer’s house. The building was relocated to the current location and remodeled into a café. One of their popular drinks, the café mocha, is 600 yen and has beautiful, delicate latte art. Of course, there is a variety of sweets as well. A local favorite is the Chiffon cake with Hida zanthoxylum fruit, priced at 650 yen. This café is owned by a couple. The lady of the house makes excellent coffee, tempered by many years working in the café. The coffee is served in a local style of lacquerware, called Kamioka-Syunkei, which her husband makes.
There is also a gallery which sells work by local artisans, including Takayama glass and “Hida no Yuki”, art made from waste wood of wooden ladle. A lacquer café au lait bowl is available.
