Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the government, the Furukawa Matsuri of the Ketawakamiya Shrine is held annually on April 19th and 20th. A large drum (Okoshi-Daiko) is carried through town by men wearing a traditional uniform consisting of white short pants and a stomach wrap. Also, beautifully decorated festival floats are paraded on the streets during the day.
The “Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall” is where you can experience the highlights of the Furukawa Festival. Three of the nine festival floats (yatai) are displayed throughout the year, and a movie on the big screen in the Hi-Vision Hall shows exciting scenes from past festivals.
Feel the excitement of the festival up close by playing an actual Okoshi-Daiko, manipulating and controlling Karakuri Ningyo (Japanese marionette dolls) and more at the exhibition hall.
